Recently, my 15-year-old son became critically ill and was diagnosed with a very rare auto immune disease called Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with polyangiitis - EGPA, (formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome) a type of vasculitis, with secondary Mononeuritis multiplex and antiphospholipid syndrome. In short, the immune system attacks the small blood vessels and central nervous system, causing inflammation and restricting blood flow to major organs and tissues, often permanently damaging them. There is no cure. The condition is managed with aggressive immunosuppressant and chemotherapy
treatments.
