Story
Thank you for visiting my page.
My friends and family will know that I have been leading easy bike rides with my club until just before Christmas 2018.
After I had my heart attack the NHS acted swiftly. My thanks go to Mr Velissaris and all his team at Southampton Hospitals who performed open heart surgery in February to replace my Aortic valve and added a double coronary bypass .
Subsequent cardiac rehabilitation has allowed me to recover my strength and get back on my bike before my eightieth birthday on 22nd May, just 13 weeks after surgery. I rode with my club to Bosham (see photo) in preparation to ride the hills as before and cover the 30 miles of this challenge.
This ride, therefore, is in tribute to other friends who have been lost to heart disease, and gratitude to the medical teams and my family who supported me
I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thank you, again
