On the weekend of 31st May/1st June I am taking on the 3 Peaks in 24hour challenge. I am raising money for Cancer Research UK, a charity that I have volunteered with for just under 20 years. Our local Colchester committee organises an annual event called Relay For Life. Relay For Life celebrates the power of community fundraising to make breakthroughs happen. Across the UK and the globe, teams of friends, families and colleagues fundraise for world-leading research to save and improve lives, then unite as a community at an event to honour everyone affected by cancer and celebrate the progress we’re making.

How does the money you raise power progress?

- £65 could buy special restriction enzymes. These act like molecular scissors to cut long strands of DNA, allowing our scientists to find out more about the genes that can cause cancer.

- £220 could fund our team of nine cancer nurses for one hour. Our nurse helpline offers confidential support and guidance to people affected by cancer.

Together we are beating cancer.
