Right, 2022 is the year I finally cycle to Paris! Two years of waiting has done nothing to dampen my enthusiasm for this although additional lockdown poundage has made the task harder. To deal with that I’m now also cycling RideLondon in May, which measures in at 100 miles all in aid of the Royal British Legion and their Poppy Appeal.
As a lot of you will know and some of you will not my Dad, Jack, fought in the latter part of WWII through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Unfortunately he was caught in May 1945 by a trip-wire while operating as a motorbike dispatch rider and then airlifted out to hospital just 5 days before VE Day.
The injury to his right knee affected him for the rest of his life although he never let it define him. In his later years as age began to catch up with him the Royal British Legion were there to support him providing assistance with several things he needed in later life. My Dad died a few years ago and I miss him dearly but I'm extremely grateful to the support the Royal British Legion gave to my Dad when he needed it.
Therefore as you can imagine the Royal British Legion is a charity close to my heart, not just for the support they gave to my dad but for all the work they do in supporting and honouring ex-servicemen of all ages. In taking on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris I will be cycling though some of the areas impacted by both World Wars and the area where my Dad's journey started all those years ago. Unlike my Dad though, I will be using pedal power only and definitely not a motor!
Thanks for your support everyone.
