Story
Our vision is a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.
I am running the London Vitality 10k for Meningitis Now to support Becca Heritage and to help raise money for the prevention and treatment of this life changing disease.
Becca is the daughter of my school friend Yvonne, who I have known since I was 11. In September 2018 Becca started her Medicine degree at Southampton University. A few weeks later she was suddenly taken ill with Meningitis and Septicaemia. Miraculously, she survived, but subsequently under went a series of amputations involving both lower legs and fingers/ fingertips on both hands, leaving her with life changing injuries. Becca is a determined and inspirational young lady however, and she is making the most amazing progress in her rehabilitation and is determined to return to university and resume her studies.
Her determination and that of her family has inspired me to run the 10K to raise money for research into prevention and treatment of this disease. I am not a runner and it will be a challenge, but it is a cause close to my heart. Many thanks.
