Yes we are officially mental but this is a charity very close to our hearts.

The statistics are staggering; 15 babies die before, during or shortly after birth everyday in the UK. That means every 90 minutes a family is faced with the traumatic devastation of the death of their baby.

When I was 10 years old, my Dad and his partner suffered the agonising loss of their baby boy two weeks before his due date. My memory of that time is fractured but their relationship broke down, as a result, and my dad always had a part missing. Since then many of our friends have suffered miscarriages, including ourselves, or the tragic experience of their babies born sleeping or losing a child to sudden infant death syndrome.

The lack of dedicated bereavement rooms on maternity wards means that many mums and dads have no where private to spend precious time with their babies before they have to say goodbye.

Sands are a stillbirth and neonatal death charity which was established 40 years ago. By 2020 they aim to reduce the number of babies dying by at least 20%. They wish for every bereaved family to get the care and support they need, for as long as they need it.

After almost killing ourselves last time, we had no intentions of putting ourselves through something so challenging again, but this is an amazing cause and is worth all the training, mental strength and pure determination needed to get over that finish line!
