Cath & Meesh

Run Balmoral · 21 April 2018 to 22 April 2018 ·
Cath & myself are running the 5k Balmoral event on the 21st of April. We are hoping to raise £200 for Alzheimer Scotland.
My granny suffered with Dementia for a few years and sadly left us at the end of November last year. She was very special to me and I had spent a lot of my childhood by her side. Watching someone you love so dearly, slowly deteriorate and their memories fade is absolutely heart-breaking. Dementia was tough on her, she did get frustrated at times because not only was her memory going but in just 8 months, she lost her mobility, couldn't use the toilet and then she stopped eating as much as she did. Her weight dropped and she was near 6-7 stone.
We believe she had a stroke 3 days before she died. In the last 3 days, she couldn't communicate much which was difficult for the family as we wanted to know if she was there or could hear us or if she was in any discomfort. She wasn't allowed to drink or eat as fluid could get into her lungs. We had to swab her mouth to keep her hydrated.... and that is all that we could do for her until she died. I can't explain to you how hard those 3 days were but I hope she is at peace now.
This run is for you granny, I miss you everyday. R.I.P
I really do hope we do find a cure for Alzheimer's and Dementia. Please donate to help fund Dementia nurses and research so that no one faces Dementia alone.
