Until March this year cancer was something that happened to other people not me, after all I run and eat healthily, I don’t drink or smoke. However on March 29th 2018 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was in utter shock as was Rhys but the hardest part was still to come, telling our gorgeous daughters. It goes without saying they were upset and worried but they have been so amazingly strong throughout, both acing their summer exams.
Within seven days of being diagnosed, having had my hair cut short I was at Velindre receiving chemotherapy. I was still in shock and very emotional but thanks to the fantastic staff I got through that first infusion and the five others that followed. A cancer centre is not a place you want to find yourself but Velindre makes it as easy as it can be.
Thankfully I have had a very positive response to the treatment I have received giving me hope for the future.
I am looking forward to the trek in Nepal. Since being diagnosed Rhys and I have been on an emotional rollercoaster so I’m hoping the spirituality of Nepal and the serenity of walking will provide a bit of calm to our lives after the previous 11 months and from something so unpleasant we will achieve something positive.
I know it will be physically demanding as I am not as fit as I was before the cancer treatment but I feel privileged to have the opportunity to help others and enable Velindre continue with its great work.

Rhys and I know we will benefit from this trip on a personal level so have paid the costs ourselves therefore 100% of your donation will go to Velindre.
