The Avenues Youth Project provides a safe, vibrant space in West London for young people to play, socialise, develop confidence and learn life skills supported and encouraged by our expert youth workers. We were awarded London Youth's Gold Quality Mark in 2024 in recognition of our excellence.

Story

Hi everyone!

If you're reading this it means you are at least considering sponsoring me - which is fantastic. Thanks for getting this far! If you're not quite convinced, heres why I think you should get those shiny debit cards out.....

The Avenues Youth Project is a small, local charity based in Westminster, an area commonly known as 'The Avenues' hence the name. The centre itself is on the corner of Third Avenue and Droop Street W10, just off of the Harrow Road, and close to the borders of  Ladbroke Grove. Its where I grew up.

The centre provides much needed support, guidance and importantly entertainment to local youths, typically 13-19 year olds. I'm sure many of you will appreciate what a difficult age this is! Even more so in an area where anti-social behaviour is an issue.

Keeping these young people motivated and off the streets is something that must continue and as with most small charities, fundraising is continuous lifeline so every penny counts!

Now to convince you of my ability!

I suppose I should be honest - I'm terrified!

The London Marathon is on my 'Things to do before Im 30' list so I'm looking forward to being able to tick it off. Doing the Brighton Half Marathon last year was my first real running challenge but also lots of fun and I managed that in a little over two hours, so I'd like to think myself capable of getting round a full marathon without keeling over! And lets face it, if the likes of Jordan and the TOWIE lot can do it....surely I can!?!

I'm slightly behind on training as I've only just had my place confirmed! So you can expect to see me looking exhausted over the next 12.5 weeks as I really dont have any time to lose.

I'll be doing the Brighton Half again on 17th Feb. Once thats under my belt I'll be upping my distance each week. Hoping to get a 20 miler done before April. For those that might be interested, I'll update my page with progress from time to time.

As I'm not massively competitive I'd be happy to simply make it round in a semi-decent time. For me, 4:30 would be lovely but I'd be happy as long as I come in under 5:00hrs!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you'll find it in your generous hearts to support both me and this fantastic cause.

Michelle.
