Participants: my son, James Ward
To raise vital funds for The Royal British Legion through fundraising in the 2018 Simplyheath Great North Run.

Story

I volunteered to run this Half Marathon in order to support my son. He is not a runner by any means. In fact he hates sport and had knee operations whilst he was at school. However, he was moved to enter the Great North Run to raise money for a charity set up in memory of a friend of his, Rebecca Dykes, who was raped and strangled whilst working for the British Embassy in Beirut just before Christmas last year (it was on the news).

I thought I would run with him and raise money for the Royal British Legion at the same time. After all, I am Chairman of the Weobley Branch!

The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces Community - serving men and women, veterans and their families.

I still hate running!
