British 10k London Run 2005 · 3 July 2005 ·

Children of Bahia is dedicated to fighting child poverty in Bahia, Brazil. We raise funds to support local projects who currently help over two hundred children with shelter, food, medical care, education and the love and support they so desperately need. We hope to help many more with your support. It is hard to understand how these children end up with no-one. Sometimes parents die or are imprisoned or fall ill; sometimes children flee homes due to violence or abuse; sometimes children become part of a gang; there are many reasons. Such children are often viewed at best as a nuisance and at worst as a danger to public safety. Violence against them is common place, and the only way of surviving is through begging, prostitution and crime. It is the aim of Children of Bahia to help to look after and educate as many children as we can over the coming years, to help guide them into a brighter future full of love and support. All our UK staff are un-paid volunteers and over 95% of all donations get to Brazil to help the children directly. Please do support us if you can. www.childrenofbahia.com

Story

**********************************************
Its good to be back and thank you for visiting my page.
**********************************************

Since April I have readjusted to life in the UK and can now say

I've got a haircut http://www.justgiving.com/miguelshaircut
I've got a job http://www.schroders.co.uk
I've got a girlfriend http://www.pamelaanderson.com Now all I need is http://yourmoney.NOW ;) Now I have a little fundraising page for the British 10km run on the 3rd of July http://www.thebritish10klondon.co.uk/ as well a faster challenge 3 days later with the JPMorgan Chase 5km run http://www.jpmorganchasecc.com/events.php?city_id=10 ********************************************** Thank you ********************************************** It is with heartfelt thanks that I send out this message. Thank you for raisining over £1000 for Maria and the children she looks. Good effort for just a haircut. This money has been put to good use making their current home more habitable: new kitchen, bathroom, toilet but mostly towards the cost of relocation. Various Projects are now converging together with this objective in mind to get the children rehoused in a new HQ in a safer neighbourhood. Some of these efforts are listed at: Sailing 5000 miles http://www.friendsofmaria.com/brazilianwaves.htm My haircut www.justgiving.com/miguelshaircut My friend who is recovering from a motorbike accident running the British 10km run www.justgiving.com/paulomatias This last effort is special to me as 2 sponsors of mine decided to run the 10km with me as well as do the harder part that is fundraising. Everywhere we look we see worthy causes so for them to give me their time, effort and sweat is too much to have hoped for. ********************************************** The Serious Stuff... ********************************************** Although all these efforts go goes part of the way the total needed to purchase an old secondary school in a much better area is £50,000. Unfortunately the owners will not rent this property and if the money is not raised soon enough then this site may be sold to another party and a new site must be researched and found. Luckily this time we have attracted some corporate sponsors but they can only match what we raise so again I need your help in spreading the word or donating some money. Would really be grateful if you can help publicise the campaign as I will not have as much free time as before (I didnt work for a year). As I have found out getting other people to do the fun for me... ahem with me, has raised the profile alot as well as the amount being raised. Like the last time I will stump up £500 to match any sponsors BUT this time it means a lot more. A £20 donation will raise over £100 with tax going back on and then being doubled by myself and then doubled again by a corporate sponsor. So please give generously as this will be the last time I will be able to match so easily what with the price of renting a new place in London. ********************************************** Money raising ideas ********************************************** How to save enough to donate £20 - go to work by bike - leave early and go at an economical speed for 2 weeks - adjust car tyre pressure to be more fuel efficient - remove golf clubs from boot to save on weight and so fuel ;) as if you guys play golf! - car boot some stuff - just gave 9 bags of clothes and 5 bags of videos and DVDs to charity... if only I had access to a car to car boot them. However Oxfam will sell them off for a good enough price. - stop buying donuts or team biscuits for a few weeks :) - do an hour of overtime ( the hard part would be getting paid for it ) -skip that expensive latte for a week ********************************************** Hope to hear from you soon... Further info at http://www.friendsofmaria.com and if can handle seeing the BBC video about the project go to http://www.friendsofmaria.com/newvideo.htm **********************************************
