FARA has been working with orphaned and abandoned children in Romania since 1991. We transform the lives of some of the poorest and most vulnerable children and young people by providing care, therapy, education and life-skills training.

Story

Climbing the World’s Highest Free-standing Mountain for the Children Without !

‘My Road to Kilimanjaro’ is about more than attempting to climb Mt Kilimanjaro. It is about self-development, the preparation road, and raising awareness regarding the orphans and children with special needs in Romania and elsewhere.

It is for all of us to remember that before being people in business, eager for career success, the real success is reached at a personal level and it resides as well in our ability to be generous, kind and forgiving.

The story of my challenge began last year, when I visited South Africa and fell in love with this incredible continent. While being there I thought I must return for learning more about its beautiful nature and amazing people and their life circumstances.

I am now embarking on a new adventure - trying to climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, which at 5895m is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. The trip will last eight days, going high winds and low temperatures, oxygen deprivation and low pressure.

I created a facebook page to keep track of my experiences, preparation and training for the big trip.

If I succeed it would be the first time the flag of the FARA Foundation would reach the Uhuru Peak.

Founded by Jane Nicholson, MBE and under the Royal patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales, FARA Foundation has set up children’s homes, childcare services including foster care, special needs education and therapy centers and prevention of school abandonment for families living in poverty. Recovery and rehabilitation centers providing vocational training for young people, some with learning difficulties, have also been established including an organic farm that has provided training and employment for 100 disadvantaged young people.
