Story
14th September 2021 will be one year i.e. 12 months since Mikail's accident. The fact that he is alive, well (despite an Acquired Brain Injury Diagnosis), and has started his secondary schooling in year 7 (this is week 2) is nothing short of a miraculous recovery.
None of this would have been possible without the intervention of the medical team at the Royal London Hospital - where Mikail was in Pediatric ICU for 12 days in September 2020 before being released in ward and rehab, finally making our journey home for the first time on 5th March 2021. Mikail had to re-learn how to walk, talk and function properly.
Mr. Chris Uff and Phil were Mikail's main surgeons. Thank you for all you and your teams did for us. Thank you to Alice and Molly. You helped us understand when we didn't. This is for you all at the NHS. for supporting our care during high Covid times. For being your best. for us.
In my view, research, education and continuous development is a pillar that supports medical advancements and is a true enabler of how well a patient is treated and the timely manner in which appropriate care is provided. Brainbook is a neurosurgical community of practicing doctors and nurses who are trying to make a difference and improve the lives of patients and expertise of the community in which it operates.
Brainbook supports research into brain tumors, traumatic brain injury and other diseases of the nervous system. I want to raise funds to enable provision of technological advancements for the Neurosciences department at the Barts Heatlh NHS Trust.
