Story

The last time Mike Barter was seen running,‘last orders’ had just been called at the Fox & Goose...

In a moment of madness I have agreed to take part in the BUPA London 10km Run on 31 May 2010 to raise money for The Royal Star & Garter Homes.

The Charity has been caring for disabled ex-Service personnel since 1916, and is in the process of building new homes around the country to provide 21st Century nursing care which, for the first time, will include specialist dementia care facilities. The first new home opened in August 2008 in Solihull, West Midlands, and the state-of-the-art facilities also enable the Charity to offer interim care for younger disabled Service personnel. The Charity has secured planning permission to build a second home near to Hampton Court Palace, and is in the process of identifying an appropriate location for a third new home in Buckinghamshire.

In 1986, I complained to my Chiropractor that whenever I went Jogging my back hurt; the response was “I can cure that – stop Jogging!!” Up until now, I have heeded his advice!

Training started in Mid-March and finished two days later when my ankle started to hurt!  The plan now is to just go for it on the day with no walking allowed and a sub 1 hour target (Eddie Izzard is my inspiration!).
