The NKF is a National charity that provides support and information to patients, families and healthcare professionals affected by kidney disease. Our aim is to improve the quality of life and support kidney patients and their families as well as lobby for renal improvements.

Story

Thank you for visiting my page.

As you may be aware my eldest sister Debbie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2001.  Whilst undergoing chemotherapy for the AML she went into complete kidney failure.  Debbie then found herself on Hemodialysis for the next 3 years.  My Dad donated one of his kidneys in 2004.  Unfortunately, in 2018 Debbie found herself facing the prospect of dialysis again.  I contacted Southmead Hospital and I underwent a variety of medical tests during 2019 where I was found to be the perfect match! I donated one of my kidneys to Debbie in September 2019.

To run the London Marathon in sub 3.5 hours has always be an ambition of mine. I want to try and achieve this goal post donation, whilst fundraising for a very important cause at the same time.

The Charity run by kidney patients for kidney patients, the charity supports two million people with Chronic Kidney Disease and 60,000 patients who have end stage kidney failure. The charity also supports Dialysis and Transplanted patients and their carers. The NKF offers a National Kidney Patients Helpline 0845 601 02 09 offering medical information leaflets, help and advice - with trained staff answering around 200 calls a week.
