Many of you who know me will know my son Brody. For those that don't he has always been an active sportsmen who competed at British Swimming Nationals, won medals representing the IOM at Island Games in Gotland and Gibraltar, medalling at the IOM Athletics Champs, competing locally in triathlons as well as an accomplished junior cyclist and rugby player. Recently Brody found himself losing some weight, sleeping poorly and feeling lethargic but as most of us do thought it would sort itself out. Thankfully his mother's intuition and refusal to take no for an answer meant that Brody was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, he is receiving the treatment he requires and should, with the right support and management of the condition continue to compete at a high level in what ever sport he chooses.


Mis or non diagnosis is the most dangerous part of type 1 diabetes and I truly believe that without his mothers persistance Brody would have dropped into a diabetic coma before much longer and things may not have turned out quite so well.


Accordingly I have decided to try and raise funds to support Diabetes Isle of Man as it looks to raise awareness of an issue which seems to be afflicting more & more people.

My first endeavour to do so will be the Granitemann Off Road Triathlon on 19 September. It wont be easy, despite recent weight loss from bootcamp classes (thanks Kikinetic Fitness & Cycle 360) I'm not built to move and not getting any younger so please give generously to support this great cause. And if you want to see me suffer come down on the day.
