Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Way back in 2008 I was asked (volunteered) to take part in a cycle ride from Covent garden London to King Georges Hall Liverpool over a period of three days as part of team Novera, in memory of John Pearson, who died at the age of 28 the victim of cancer, monies raised going to the Christie in Manchester, the inspiration behind this venture was, a gentleman and fellow cyclist John Howson, over the period of that trip John inspired us with his tales of the "big one" Lands End to John o Groats, and positively encouraged our participation in such a trip, some time later when the pain had stopped rather foolishly we all agreed to give it a go, life never being easy we were unable to undertake the trip in one hit and decided that a three part adventure would be more fun
After overcoming the fear of lycra, again,(not many places to hide being over weight and 50 fast disappearing over the hill) plans were made, nearly all the team were back together, despite much cajoling however we couldnt get John Howson to join us,as I said life sometimes isnt that simple, we embarked on part one of the adventure, with Johns vow to joins us on part two ringing in our ears, part one duly dispatched and with the memory of the Brooks leather saddle firmly etched in my memory and other places, ( I had once read that a true tourng cycle had either a steel frame or a brooks leather saddle, I had opted for the leather saddle) we went back to the daily grind.
A few months later and we get news that John isnt well, we waited and hoped, andJohn was determined he was going on the ride, we waited and then the news we didnt want to hear, John had lost his 10 month battle with cancer. So now part two of the adventure carries a special significance as we carry Johns memory from Tewksbury to Carslile from the 7-9 September 2012. are we ready? no, am I still scared of lycra and,the brooks saddle? oh yes, would I miss it for the world? no chance, Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
