Mike's 200 Miles for Brain Tumor Research

200 Miles for Brain Tumor Research · 24 August 2013
In January of this year my dad was diagnosed as having a brain tumour, and after going through brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, we are still unsure what the future holds.
Demonstrating a prime example of a stiff-upper-lip, Dad's mantra has always been focusing on how to get better. During his first week of treatment, Mum and Dad tallied up a total of 200 miles.
On 4th May my brother James sucsessfully took on Tough Mudder and raised a collosal £687.50 for Brain Tumor Research. My aim is to match or better James' effort by cycling 200 miles from Swansea to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Rhyl, over two days.
After confiding my plans in lifelong friend Sam, he pointed me in the direction of his collegue Stephen Lloyd, who has recently completed a 3,000 mile, coast-to-coast ride across America. I wrote to Stephen in search of friendly advice and guidance. Going above and beyond, Stephen offered to be my riding partner, and complete the 200-mile journey alongside me.
On the 24th August, we shall set off from Swansea and head through the Brecon Beacons, crossing the border to England, staying the night somewhere in Telford. Continuing on Sunday we will head through Malpas, into Deeside where we will ride past Mum and Dad's house, and then on to the finish line, in Rhyl.
