Story

Firstly a Huge Thank You for the amazing support  and incredible donations received for Guernsey Cancer Support.

An update of how it went: As many of you know a part of their  challenge especially for Brian was to complete the marathon in under 2 hours. They began training in January as the marathon was planned for earlier and then delayed.

Their training was going brilliantly until around four weeks ago when Brian tested positive with COVID and was pretty unwell. Up until last weekend Brian had decided not to participate and committed to running the course in a months time.

However on Sunday he decided to run the race, The boys  finished on 2 hours and 9 minutes and should seriously should be so proud of their achievement. It was also fantastic to witness both the guys cross the line together. True friends!

Good friends and rugby buddies for too many years to mention, Mike Smith and Brian O’Mahoney have decided to run this year’s 2021 Guernsey Half Marathon in aid of Guernsey Cancer Support, a fantastic local charity. A few years ago Mike’s mum Sue passed away due to cancer and more recently his sister Julie also passed away unexpectedly from cancer, so this charity is especially poignant and I’m sure that there aren’t many people out there that this disease hasn’t touched in some way or another.

So (probably over a pint or two) these two decided to once again give it a go. They are hoping to do this in a time of just under two hours, or on a good day, with the wind behind them the aim is to do slightly under two hours. Having said that, Brian has been trying to achieve this time for almost 20 years now, but this is definitely the year! Brian has been close on many occasions, but has been thwarted by the weather conditions or injury, so fingers crossed!

Any support would be greatly appreciated.
