Story
Did you know that 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?
In the past I have completed many long cycle challenges including Ride London 100 in 2019 when I raised almost £1000 for Diabetes UK in memory of my brother Roger. I was cycling up to 2500 miles a year and I'd like to think I was in good shape.
At the end of December 2021 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 prostate cancer. I kept on cycling through my Radiotherapy and Hormone Treatment and I'm very pleased to say I am still alive and cycling. But the treatment has taken its toll, I have gained weight, lost energy and often feel totally drained. I bought an e-bike which has allowed me to still cycle 30 miles with friends but I'm much more inclined to look out of the window now and decide not to go. Cycle 100 miles in a day? No chance!
I’m taking on the Cycle 300 Miles in June challenge for PCR to encourage me to get out more whilst raising money to help make a difference to men and their families who have been affected by prostate cancer. I also hope to promote the work of Herefordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group. I plan if possible to complete the challenge without the assistance of my e-bike.
Since I was diagnosed at least 6 of my friends have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Please support me during this challenge by donating what you can to Prostate Cancer Research. Every donation you make helps advance our mission to create a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.
Thank you for your support! 💙🧡
