Many of you may never have even heard of Moldova! A quick check on Google tells us that it is sandwiched between Romania and Ukraine, having emerged as an independent republic following the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Unfortunately the price of national freedom has been economic collapse and massive social problems. Since independence Moldova's economy has shrunk by 3.5% each year. Two thirds of Moldovan's live off less that $4 a day and many in Dancu live below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day.
