Story
Goalball was originally developed as a rehabilitation programme for blinded and visually impaired soldiers following World War II. It subsequently developed into a highly competitive sport and is now a key Paralympics event.
Since having the honour of being the Chief Executive of Goalball UK I have seen how Goalball can positively change a visually impaired (VI) person’s make up, personality and whole being. Please check out the video “Transforming People’s Lives” at www.goalballuk.com
The 170 mile Coast to Coast tandem bike ride accompanied by a Goalball player riding shotgun is going to be a tough challenge …… not least for someone of my ‘maturity’ with little cycling experience. The old rugby knocks and injuries could well raise their heads again!
I’m truly inspired what Goalball players can achieve and indeed what this unique sport can deliver for those who have been unfortunate enough to be born without sight or to lose it at some point. We want to expand Goalball throughout the UK and your donation will help us to introduce more individuals to the sport, help create more clubs geographically throughout the country, improve the performances of our Great Britain Men’s and Women’s teams, and generally increase overall participation.
So please ‘get off your bike’ and donate now. It will make a real difference to the lives of so many.
Cheers.
Mike
