3 Marathon Challenge · 14 April 2013

LED's mission is to provide low-tech solutions to 3 basic needs: affordable lighting, basic education and essential healthcare. Led by the inspiring Val Pitkethly, we focus on the remote communities of Nepal and Peru.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm running the Brighton and London Marathons in April and the Berlin Marathon in September for LED - a charity I saw in action first hand when I travelled to Peru in 2012. (www.lighteducationdevelopment.org)

While in Peru I met the founder of LED (our trekking guide, Val) who established the charity to provide low tech and sustainable solutions to three basic needs to remote villages in the high mountain villages of the Cordillera Blanca and the HuayHuash mountains of Peru and the Manaslu region of Nepal: cheap affordable lighting, basic education, and healthcare.

They are things we take for granted and yet are in scarce supply in many parts of the world. The provision of these basic supplies betters the lives and aids the economic development of the adults and children who live and work in these otherwise isolated mountain settlements.
