Story

Mike sadly passed away on the 26th January 2021.  His mind was as agile as ever to the very last, it was his body that gave up the fight.  But then, as everyone who knew him knows, he had a lifelong battle with various illnesses, never complaining, always surviving.  And his survival included walking away from various plane crashes, car crashes and a wide variety of other adventures that would have felled a lesser man.

Mike was many things in life, a Kings School boy, a research chemist, a successful car dealer, a world-renowned militaria collector, and a true British character.  Friends with hundreds of people from every level of society, known throughout Kent, eccentric to the end, trading on ebay to the very last day.  We definitely won't be seeing his like again!

Mike was nursed through two very difficult periods in his life at Headley Court, once as a teenager, the second time after his plane crash.  He never forgot the kindness, camaraderie, and the power of healing he found there. He was lucky enough to be invited back for a walk down memory lane by the C.O of the DMRC before Headley Court closed and moved to Stanford Hall.

If you would like to honour Mike's memory he would love nothing more than for you to join him in making a donation to the Benevolent Fund.  The fund's income goes directly supporting to the men and women in need of rehabilitation.

About the charity

The DMRC Benevolent Fund purchases special goods and services for patients' rehabilitation, beyond that which is provided by the public purse. We create opportunities for patients to engage in social activities, which lets them forget about their injuries and rehabilitation for a few hours.
