Growing up locally, I’ve known so many people who have been cared for by Saint Francis Hospice before they’ve passed away.
One of those people was my teammate Lyndsey, who was only 39 when she passed away. She was a big personality and it really hit the team hard when she died. When you think of a hospice, you think of the elderly, but the nurses did an amazing job of making Lynds feel comfortable by painting her nails and making sure the drinks trolley wasn’t too far away!
I’ve never known anyone to have a single complaint about their experience of the Hospice. In fact, my friends have come away so blown away by the care and support they have received, they have been inspired to do everything and anything they can to raise money for the hospice in the future.
While I feel fortunate that none of my family has needed the support of the Hospice, I really hope one day it’s still there if we do. Coming out of the pandemic, the normal fundraising activities have been hit hard, but at the same time the hospice has cared for more families than ever before. The future has never been more uncertain.
A hospice nurse walks an average of 12,000 steps per shift, so everyday in March I am going to try and match that - and I’ll be dragging Mikey along for the ride.
It’s not going to be easy, as since we’ve been working from home, we’ve struggled to get above 2000 steps a day, so this will be the motivation we need to get moving again.
I really hope you can sponsor me and Mikey to help us really make a difference!! Thank you so much for your support in advance.
