Story
In 2009-2010, in my role as an Army Officer, I was deployed to Afghanistan. It was a great privilege to see how British servicemen and women acted so professionally and courageously under such challenging conditions – I was left in awe of both their commitment and their sacrifice. Part of my duties took me to complete work in Nightingale Hospital in Camp Bastion which, at the time was one of the busiest trauma centres in the world. My experiences there made an indelible impression upon me, and have led me to leave my role in the Army and re-train in Graduate Medicine in order to return to as a Medical Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
The Blind and Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association is a fantastic charity, helping those servicemen and women who have made enormous sacrifices for us. It provides rehabilitation, welfare and lifelong support. BLESMA’s remit is huge; they are caring and supporting veterans from 19 to 99 years old. With the recent conflicts in both Iraq and Afghanistan their role is more important than ever.
Artyom and I are completing the Virgin London Marathon 2015 as part of a series of fundraising events we have organised since November 2014 – we have already raised around £3000, please help us to support the work of this amazing military charity.
Thank you.
