Story

Our dear Mum lived with Alzheimer's for years.

Mum loved to walk and the disease slowly took away her mobility though we were lucky she still recognised all her three children (Betsy, Fanny and Tom) and all her eight grandchildren (Ed, Alicia, Harry, Rosie, Josh, Isabelle, Theo and Eliza) to the end.

Due to Mum's love of walking (especially with her beloved dogs) we are keen to remember her by raising funds for the brilliant Alzheimer’s Society with a walk from St Austell in Cornwall to St Paul's Cathedral in London.

I will walk the 250 odd miles (covering 20 miles a day) and my sister, Fanny, will join me for stretches and walk a total of over 50 miles over two weekends. For Fanny, this equates to two marathons, and, as she has never walked over 10 miles in one go before, it is a really impressive effort.

Tragically, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the UK ever three minutes (in the world as.a whole it's more like every three seconds).

Almost everyone of us knows a family member or a friend living with Alzheimer's, so if you can spare even the smallest donation it would be hugely appreciated. Fanny and I are trying to raise £2,500 over the 250 miles in memory of our wonderful Mum, who, as anyone who knew her will vouch, was the sweetest of souls

The AS does great work to help those living with Alzheimer's. The charity's work has been especially important during Covid, and never more so than in the hard hit care homes. The AS is always trying to raise more awareness about Alzheimer's and until the day a cure is found, it will fight to do all it can to help those affected by this awful disease.

If any of you can spare even the smallest donation to the AS, to help Fanny and I hit our target, we would be so appreciative.

We are also happy to tie a ribbon around our walking staves in memory of a loved one who lived or is living with Alzheimer's - or to play a song in their honour on our Miles Memories and Mum Spotify list (just let Fanny, Skonie or I know if you'd like a song or a ribbon).

We want this to be a shared walk and if anyone wants to join in or tell us about a loved one living with Alzheimer's, we would be happy to share your story. Again just let Fanny, Skonie or I know. My email is tomfreo@hotmail.com or contact via my Facebook or Instagram page.
