Story
St Georges Kidney Patients Association (SGKPA) needs your help!
Financial Armageddon has left many charities reeling and St Georges is no exception
St George’s requires at least GBP 25,000 for a new Laparoscopic unit which will make a real difference to people’s lives by helping reduce the side effects of donating a kidney.
Kidney problems will affect all of us at some stage in our lives. This may be individually or through friends and family.
As a group of nine friends, we are united in this hugely important cause and have pledged to raise this fantastic sum!
One of our team is currently a patient with St George's and any support will not only be beneficial to them personally but also to nearly 10% of the UKs Kidney sufferers who are treated at St George's.
Over the coming months, we will be training and fundraising hard to raise this target and part of our campaign will include a 500km cycle ride in just under 4 days – a terrifying proposition for most our team, many of whom have only just removed their stabilisers (training wheels)…. !
I know that a lot of you are being stung with a plethora of charity events at this time of year, however this is a genuinely fantastic cause and EVERY penny, dollar and pound goes to help better the lives of the patients, some of whom we know personally – your donation will make a difference!
At present St George's renal facilities are currently housed in portacabins!
Without the SGKPA, even basic comforts would not have been purchased, including:
· air conditioners
· dialysis chairs
· bed curtains
· ice-making machines
· furnishing the day room in Buckland Ward
· furnishing the relatives' room in Buckland Ward
Renal care is long-term and very involved, with multiple weekly visits required.
At present Private medical insurance does not cover dialysis or transplantation or long-term care, so virtually all renal patients are treated by the NHS which is why it is so important to maintain awareness and support this charity!
Very best regards,
