Story
On 26 April 2015, it will be exactly five years' since we lost our beautiful son - Louis - to Dravet Syndrome. To us, it still only feels like five minutes ago. We are still trying to understand and come to terms with our loss.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/local-news/maghull-parents-tribute-angel-son-3384895We felt it would be a great tribute to mark the occasion by doing something extra special in his memory, so we are going to participate in this years' Liverpool "Rock 'n' Roll" Marathon & raise funds for "Dravet Syndrome UK"; a charity that provides support to families, raises awareness within the medical profession and funds medical research.
Dravet Syndrome is a very rare form of childhood epilepsy, causing severe seizures alongside other conditions such as learning disability, ataxia, autism and sudden death.
All of the specialist consultants we met were great, but they simply did not have the answers to our questions about his condition or details for family support networks. However, they were able to advise of a recent discovery in genetic research which subsequently provided us with the confirmation of Louis' prognosis; and confirmation that our other two blessings, Holly & Freddie, were 'all clear'. Much more research is needed.
Anything we contribute really will be for a fully deserving cause. Your support really will be greatly appreciated and make our challenge all the more worthwhile.
