In memory of our lovely Nana, this year Millie will be taking part in the annual Cupcake Day followed by a sponsored run to support the Alzheimers Society! 

Back in January Millie’s New Years resolution was to donate to a charity this year (beginning with asking if she could donate all of the money she was given for her birthday and Christmas to the charity *proud mummy alert*) so we suggested she look for fun ways to raise some money instead.....

She settled on the Alzheimer’s Society as she read about the wonderful ways they support families affected by dementia, a cause close to our hearts. Being the resourceful little clever clogs that she is off she went off to research the charity, fundraising ideas and put this plan together, writing to her headteacher to suggest the idea and organising the cake sale.

She will be hosting a cupcake sale with games at her school on Thursday 13th June, as well as taking part in her first junior ParkRun on Sunday 9th June to raise extra funds! 

If that isn't incentive enough for you to dig deep (being the little force to be reckoned with that she is) she has also persuaded me to agree to matched giving - matching and donating the same amount that she raises herself - and as always she's desperate to get her hands on my cash.......

In the average time it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia, here is an example of how fundraising supports the charity:

£2 – pays for a sprinkling of a much-needed DNA Duplicator, needed to conduct tests on DNA.

£50 – provides five hours of in-depth support for five people in crisis from a Helpline team.

£150 – pays for two people with Dementia and their carers to attend ‘Singing for the Brain’ sessions each week for an entire year.

£610 - pays for a Doctoral Training Centre to run for one day, helping up to eight PhD researchers to carry out ground breaking study in dementia research.
