The Millie Wright Children’s Charity officially launches on 7th May 2022 and is gearing-up to help families of critically ill children at Leeds Children’s hospital.

Our charity was registered with The Charities Commission in England and Wales in memory of Millie who died on 21^st August 2021 aged just 13. 

Millie and her parents lived at Leeds Children’s hospital throughout Millie’s five-month ordeal, firstly on Ward L50 (Liver and Renal) and then on Wards L31 - L33 (Oncology). They experienced how valuable hands-on support from independent charities was accessible on some wards but that this support was not available across all.

The Millie Wright Children’s Charity will give families on Ward L50 access to specific practical, financial and emotional support when caring for a child diagnosed with a life threatening non-malignant liver, renal or haematological condition.

Our long-term goal is to provide support and advocacy to parents and carers through Family Support Workers (employed by the charity) who will give 'hands on' help and be there as someone to talk-to for families on the ward. We hope to make a difficult time more bearable.

The charity is being launched on Saturday 7th May, which would have been Millie’s 14^th birthday. Come and join us from 10 am on The Green, Upper Poppleton for a day that will start with a 5k fun run and then offer craft stalls, refreshments, live music and a memorial tree dedication (a stunning red chestnut kindly donated by D-Tail Plants, York).
