Empowerment's vision is to work alongside people in Blackpool and the Fylde Coast who feel they have no voice and are not listened to; so that they are empowered to bring about real and positive change to their own lives and the lives of others.

Story

A group of us will be walking from Bridlington to Blackpool (138 miles) from Weds 18th August to Sat 21st August (4 days/3 nights) to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health.

Mental health is such a dominating issue within our community, particularly in young men. As a group, we want to play our part in fighting against it and eradicate any stigma that surrounds men and their mental health.

In order to do this, we have teamed up with Empowerment Charity in Blackpool who work tirelessly to improve the lives of people across the Fylde Coast. Together, we will be raising money to help build a support space, specifically for young men, who are struggling with their mental health.

The space will be called ‘Elliot’s Place’ in memory of my brother Elliot Taylor, who tragically took his own life after battling with mental health and having nowhere to turn for immediate help.

Elliot’s Place will offer onsite counselling, peer-support, group activities and most importantly, it will be a safe space where men can feel comfortable to talk to each other about their thoughts, feelings and emotions without any stigmas attached.

Please help us get Elliot’s Place up and running to begin making a difference in the Blackpool community!

Finally, big thanks to Birkhouse Bed & Breakfast (York), Hampsthwaite Memorial Hall (Harrogate) and Read & Simonstone Village Hall (Burnley) for giving us a place to stay each night!
