Milly's Marathon 2021

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to run the Virgin London Marathon 2021 (crazy, I know) for Leukaemia Care and I would really appreciate any donation big or small to this wonderful charity.
I have never been a runner, ever! At the start of Lockdown 2020 I couldn't run 5k without stopping and the 5 for 5 viral challenge encouraged me to get fit and start running. I remember sitting at my family dinner table and announced that my Lockdown achievement would be to run a half marathon in April with no training - which I managed to complete albeit in agony! After this, I soon found my love for the sport and now regularly run on average 30kms a week. However this is nothing compared to the challenge ahead! I will be getting my head down and for the first time in my life focusing on a sporting challenge that I am doubting whether is even possible to complete. Please follow me on my journey and wish me luck - I am going to need it! I have linked my Strava to this page so you can see how I am getting on.
Now to the important part ... I have chosen to run for Leukaemia Care - an absolutely fantastic charity that I would love for you to donate to. Throughout 2020 I realised how truly lucky and blessed I am to live the life I live and I wanted to give something back to those who are not as fortunate. On social media, I came across a very poorly little girl who was suffering from Leukaemia and she was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant in the hope of saving her life. I instantly signed up to become a stem cell donor and now 6 months later, I can proudly say I am fully registered to be an immediate donor. This means should a match ever come up, I will be able to donate my stem cells and hopefully help save someones life. Whilst this is just one small act, I want to continue to do more which is why I have chosen to run and raise money for Leukaemia Care.
Leukaemia Care is a national blood cancer support charity that registered with the Charity Commission on 11th September 1969 originally as a children's leukaemia charity. Over 50 years later they now offer support to people of all ages affected by blood or lymphatic cancer. They are extremely dedicated to ensure that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. They do not only support patients, but carers and families too who can often carry a lot of the emotional strain when someone they love is diagnosed with blood cancer. Their vision is improving lives through earlier diagnosis, access to effective treatments, information and support.
