Story
1 in 5 women will be stalked in their lifetime and 1 in 10 men. Despite this, victims can find it difficult to come forward or bring criminal charges against perpetrators, and the laws around stalking are difficult to understand and interpret. In short, stalking is a really big problem that is terrifying for victims, and its a gendered problem too. Women are more likely to be stalked than men, and 61% of female victims and 44% of male victims of stalking are stalked by a current or former partner.
That's why the work The Suzy Lamplugh Trust do is so valuable. They run the National Stalking Helpline, which helps around 3,000 victims a year, campaign for changes in the law to protect victims and run training programmes to create safer environments for women and men alike.
The National Stalking Helpline can feel like a lifeline to stalking victims those who are scared, lost and confused, so your donations will contribute to its running, as well as the ability for the Trust to the campaign, train, educate and ultimately create change.
I am running the Hackney Half for Suzy Lamplugh because I believe in a world where laws, processes and society protect us all against stalking. No one should feel scared, threatened or harassed.
