Story
I am a reluctant runner. Anyone who knows me, and by that I mean, anyone who’s ever heard me moan, will know I do not run for pleasure!
I run so I can still hold my stick at the end of a hard hockey match. I run so that, despite my advanced age, I can give all the kids a hard time about being lazy on the pitch! I run so that I can eat a lot of crisps!
I run, but I hate it.
Somehow, in a bet with my Big Boss, I found myself entered for a half marathon, The Royal Parks. Given that the last half marathon I did was one of the worst experiences of my life, I did rather kick myself in the morning when I realised there was no backing out.
But this time, I am running for a cause. I’m running to support a charity that has supported and continues to offer great help and encouragement to my mum, The Lincoln MS Therapy Centre. The MS Therapy Centre is a drop-in Centre for those who have MS to meet, socialise and obtain treatments and use facilities free of charge.
So, I have to be honest, running has been a bit easier this time. Every time I want to stop, I just think of how my mum goes to the MS Centre most weeks and does Pilates, or a gym class and meets other people who offer her support. I think of her determination to keep walking, keep swimming, keep going, despite the challenges. And I think of all the MS Centre’s welcoming support and I think, right Pix, better keep on running…
If you’d like to make a donation to help me to help the MS Centre, it would be very very much appreciated, by me, by the Centre and by my wonderful mum!
Cheers,
Mim
