Researching the effects of the intra-uterine environment on the unborn child · 16 June 2015

CW+ is the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Story

I am leading a team, based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, to investigate the link between fetal and adult health.

There is strong evidence that many adulthood diseases occur as a consequence of events that happen during early life, which in turn are related to genetic and environmental factors that take effect within the uterus (intra-uterine) during pregnancy. Some babies who develop in a difficult intra-uterine environment may be more prone to specific disorders such as obesity, diabetes or heart disease.

Through this project, we believe we will be able to find out how the environment within the uterus can affect the development of the unborn baby. Based on our findings, we will then proceed to investigate possible ways to protect the baby from any harmful elements and limit or prevent the damage and complications for later life.

We need to raise £40,000 to fund the first phase of this project and welcome any support you can offer.

Thank you for your interest in supporting this project.

Many thanks
