Story
Why
I have personally benefitted from MIND
(Abingdon) services, the last couple of years have been extremely
turbulent for me, we ‘as a family’ have been victim to three family
bereavements in the last 14 Months! Clearly, this had a massive negative impact
on my outlook on life, MIND offered me talking therapy which help
me understand my feelings and positively greave whilst keeping my family’s
wellbeing intact, for me I learnt that “its ok, not to be ok”! they provided me
coping mechanisms to alleviate the overwhelming feelings of helplessness and
isolation.
As a serving soldier I understand just
how hard it can be to admit that you need help, the tough exterior that we
portray can act as a barrier between being comfortable in our own skin.
however, acknowledgment that help is required is the first step to wellbeing.
MIND charity
At least one in four of us will
experience mental health issues in any one year. MIND (Abingdon) charity
is an organisation that supports patients overcome complexed mental health
trauma. MIND promote mental wellbeing strategies through the
provision of professional Councillors who promote positive change and
signposting to an array of excellent services. which include housing, talking
therapies, benefits advice, a confidential and free information, not forgetting
on-line courses.
MIND Abingdon centre has worked intimately with 3 and 4 Regt RLC
over the last few years offering soldiers of all ranks professional sympathetic
support, it cannot be overstated just what a positive impact MIND has had on
our serving soldiers. Solely relying on donations to operate. MIND depend
on the goodwill of others to function. This prompted my enthusiasm to raise
funds.
Aim
We aim to raise £4000 between the two
Regt's this will go towards replacing their kitchen. thus, allowing them to do more
coffee, lunch, tea and cake afternoons, as well as cook for special occasions
i.e., offering the vulnerable some rest bite in a safe and a welcoming
environment.
I’m sure you will agree we are raising
money for this great cause. We will be walking 70 miles in 24 hours with 35kg
on our backs simulating the depression burden that those suffering inhabit.
