The procession of tractors leaving Hollybeds Farm at Earls Croome at 1030 on the 1st May has been organised by a group of members from the local young farmers club.

The event has been organised in memory of Nathan Tomkins who sadly passed away after taking his own life on Christmas Eve 2016 at the age of 22 years old.

Nathan's Story
Nathan was charming, athletic, confident, a fierce team player at Upton Rugby Club and a dedicated involved member of Upton Young Farmers.

There wasn't anyone he was afraid to talk to, whether you were 1 month old or 100 years he knew how to make you feel welcome, appreciated and more importantly he knew how to make you smile.

Physically nothing scared Nathan, on the rugby pitch he was talented and fierce there wasn't a tackle he would shy away from or game that he wouldn't give 110% towards. He could play 80 minutes of rugby today and run a marathon tomorrow.

Within Young Farmers there wasn't anything that phased him, he could turn his hand to every competitor he was asked. Whether that was playing a lead role in the Club pantomime, mastering a new dance style, or turning up on the day and being the strongest member of the tug of war team.
To Nathan clubs were just a name and he made great efforts getting to know every yfc member he met whether that was from surrounding clubs, counties or from the other side of the country.

And so much more besides...

That is what everyone saw and how I hope he will be remembered.

Underneath all of that and very much out of the public eye though, Nathan had been silently fighting a long battle with depression and anxiety.
This all came to a head on Christmas Eve 2016 when he sadly took his own life.

In his short 22 years of life, Nathan achieved more and touched more people's hearts than most do in a lifetime. For that he will be remembered.

Nathan may no longer be here but his memory and legacy shall continue. Through events like today and the charitable trust that is being set up in Nathan's name, he will live on.

With a beer in his hand and a smile on his face, we will remember him.
