The 850 Million challenge · 31 December 2021 ·
The Mini-Wilks are joining the fight to help end kidney disease by completing the #850Challenge. We are doing this to support our beautiful friend Kate, who also happens to be my brother-in-laws sister. So this is very close to our hearts....
2020 was a year to remember but for all the wrong reasons. In the summer Kate gave birth to a beautiful little boy, however within hours of giving birth Kate became extremely poorly with septic shock and found herself in ICU on 24 hour dialysis & a ventilator, whilst under sedation as her organs were failing her. The signs were there during her final trimester but weren’t picked up correctly & in the days after giving birth she was diagnosed with a very rare condition developed during pregnancy called “HELLP Syndrome” which is a pregnancy complication that affects the blood and liver. It's a medical emergency that needs quick treatment.
Finally after 41 days in hospital Kate was reunited with her husband and baby boy at home. To this day Kate continues to have weekly dialysis treatment to enable her to live and in order for her to live a full and normal life again she sadly requires a kidney transplant.
Kate and all her family and friends have been through so much & will continue to do so for a long time yet, so we are taking on this challenge as husband and wife to support this charity to prevent this happening to other families in the future, therefore if you can please donate whatever you can to help us towards reaching the 850 mile target set this year. Every £ will help to keep research going and help kidney patients.
There are currently 850 million people worldwide living with kidney disease. This is not OK. With kidney disease now being the 10th top cause of death, Kidney Research UK has never been more important. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Research is key to transforming kidney health and support is crucial to make this happen. Kidney disease ends here.
