Story
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2021 and underwent a single mastectomy & DIEP reconstruction (new boob made from my tummy tissue) in May followed by 8 months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy finishing in March 2022.
At 41 I was still noted as 'young' to have Breast Cancer.
I was lucky to have a Doctor who didn't dismiss my concerns and
referred me for a mammogram immediately. I was lucky to know 'my normal' and know that something just wasn't right.
Since my diagnosis I talk BooBs A LOT! When I've talked to younger colleagues & friends it was great to hear that they were already were signed up for the CoppaFeel! monthly check reminder texts. But it was scary to speak to so many people who still didn't check their breast tissue.
Early detection can save lives & I want to make sure that CoppaFeel! can continue to raise awareness long into the future.
There are just 254 days between my treatment finishing & the start of this crazy trekking adventure.
I appreciate it is a worrying time in the world right now but, if you can spare anything to help me hit my fundraising target (even by just sharing my story) I would be ever so grateful.
Oh, and did I mention I've never camped before! EVER. What could possibly go wrong...........
CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
