Story

Mistral is a Pets As Therapy dog and does her rounds both at the local hospice and at The Royal Free Hospital twice a week, every week.

For many years Mistral and her owner, Mary, have been part of the team at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead. Last year she became an even more familiar sight at The Marie Curie, Hampstead, when one of her owners, Mary's husband Peter, was himself admitted. He died peacefully at the Marie Curie in January 2019 with Mistral at the foot of his bed.

Mistral and her family were able to witness from the inside, the tremendous care provided by the hospice team. This wonderful hospice allows people to die with dignity and without pain, surrounded by those they love. In addition they work closely with hospitals and those with terminal illness in the local community.

The Covid crisis means their services are needed more than ever.  But, like many other charitable organisations, they are suffering a devastating loss of income which may jeopardise their ability to  offer their usual level of care.

The Marie Curie relies almost entirely on charitable donations and as a result of their current crisis all the usual fundraising activities from which they benefit (runs/ walks/ coffee mornings/ bucket collections) have been cancelled.

Unfortunately the patients that the Marie Curie look after, are not able to put their needs on hold and the services provided by the Marie Curie are needed more than ever.

Like the rest of the world, Mistral is currently self isolating at home, with Mary, and unable to do her usual ward rounds.  Instead she and Mary are doing a virtual collection online to try and help their friends at the Marie Curie Hampstead and nationwide to ensure they can keep their doors open at this time of great need.

If, in other circumstances, you might have bought a Marie Curie daffodil badge at your local outlet or thrown some pennies into a collection bucket or even if you simply want to help a charity in need then please please donate to our virtual collection through this page!

Any amount will help.

Mistral and Mary thank you from the bottom of their hearts.

With much love and a special woof from Mistral
