Story
On the 18th November we received news from our friend Mason Kelly that he was diagnosed with cancer in his thigh bone. As a group of young lads the news came as a shock but we all wanted to find a way to support Mason. Mason has been a friend of all of us for many years, whether it be meeting through school, on the terraces of Holker Street with Barrow A.F.C. or watching Liverpool at Anfield.
We set out to find the best way of supporting Mason through his fight against advanced stage Ewing Sarcoma and looked through a variety of different options to raise money for the fantastic cause that is The Bone Cancer Research Trust.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives and improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spent went to bone cancer - not even close to 1%! Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to help save lives!
An unfortunate side effect of Mason's treatment is that he will lose his hair through chemotherapy, that's when the 9 of us (Lewis Knott, Ronan McCarthy, Corey Milby, Jake Dougan, Liam Hall, Adam Allsopp, Harrison Bates, Tommy McGrath and Derry Greaves) decided a great way to raise money would be through a charity head shave.
We got in touch with Devro's Barbers to help support us with the head shave, who immediately offered to play their part and offered to shave all the lads heads, and we thank them for their incredible generosity. With everyone on board we've set a date and location for this to take place! On the 7th February at Furness College we will take part in the head shave, and hope that by doing so we can reach our target of raising £5000 (We set an original target of £2000 and it was smashed in 5 hours! we cant thank you enough for your generosity!) for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
We hope that you can help us reach our target and support a fantastic cause by doing so!
