We raise funds for projects in Ghana to improve education, health & environment

Story

We are raising funds for Dream Big Ghana Foundation to invest in staging the Meet Me There Weekender 2019, a festival celebrating Ghana’s rich art, music and culture.  The money raised through this page will help us with the initial set up costs of the festival. All profits from the festival will then be used to fund Dream Big Ghana’s sanitation, education and cultural programmes.

Last year’s Meet Me There Weekender raised a spectacular £6000, which has all been put to good use.  The 2019 Weekender hopes to smash that target, helping Dream Big Ghana to continue their vital work in the local community.

MMT Weekender is much more than a fundraising festival, the project also offers invaluable employment opportunities within our community. A long-term goal of MMT weekender is to provide the infrastructure for a community music studio in the villages of Dzita- Abgledomi. This would be a creative space where local musicians/talent would be given a platform to realise their potential. To find out more about the project please visit: https://www.mmtweekender.com/about

Dream Big Ghana is located between two poor coastal villages in the Volta Region of Ghana, right on the Atlantic coast.  The population of the villages is about 10,000 and people mainly support themselves though subsistence fishing and farming, existing on incomes below the UN poverty baseline of $1.25 a day.  The Meet Me There Weekender not only raises funds for Dream Big Ghana’s projects, but provides employment for local people during the festival and all the year round.

Few local people can afford flushing toilets, so Dream Big Ghana builds amazing eco-san composting toilets for families and schools.  We hope the money raised through this fundraising page will help us to build at least one toilet, serving 15-20 people who otherwise have to use the bushes or the beach. Dream Big Ghana also supports a menstrual hygiene project, providing pads for local girls to improve comfort, dignity and school attendance.

Dream Big Ghana has built a vibrant Community Learning Centre, which hosts everything from adult IT literacy courses to drumming workshops to after-school homework clubs.  Money raised from the Weekender will help to continue to fund these activities.

The next Meet Me There Weekender is being planned for 14th-17th March, 2019.  Please see our web site for further details: https://www.mmtweekender.com

We need your help to make this festival happen, so we can bring joy to our community and international visitors, and so we can raise money for Dream Big Ghana.  Thank you for all your support!
