Story

The walk first started in 2015 this year is the 8th year. The route is the Guild wheel 21-miles should take around 8 hours. Over the last 7 years we have raised well over £60K split between the MND Association and the MND section of the RPH hospital charity. Funds raised go towards specialist equipment, education, and local and national research. In the hope that one day soon, there will be an effective treatment or even a cure. The walk not only raises funds, but it raises lots of awareness.

There are currently no effective treatments or curefor this devastating terminal disease. Patients can lose in no set order; the ability to walk, use their arms and hands, speak, eat and ultimately breathe. MND is most common neurodegenerative disease of mid-life, and many younger people are also affected. Progression can be rapid with 1/3 of people dying within a year of diagnosis. Because some people die so quickly, only 5000 live with the disease at any one time.Misconceptions that MND is rare it is not rare – 1 in every 300 people, across all communities, will develop MND in their lifetime.
