Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. If you would like to take part by doing a Winter Walk, or the 300,000 steps in 30 days, and don't want to set up an individual page please share the link to this Branch page and ask family and friends if they would like to donate.
The Norfolk, Norwich & Waveney Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association is raising money by sponsorship & donations to maintain their vital support for people living with MND, a terminal illness.
Local people with MND turn to the Norfolk, Norwich & Waveney Branch for advice, face-to-face meetings and importantly can apply for financial grants to help improve their quality of life.
But with the coronavirus pandemic cancelling or postponing fundraising events, volunteers at the Norfolk, Norwich & Waveney Branch are determined to find other ways to raise money to continue supporting local people facing the devastating illness.
Supporters of the branch and committee members will take part in a virtual winter walk during December - February, with Anne starting us off by walking almost 11 miles during the last weekend in November. Sue and Jo went next during the first week of December, and Sue added another 8.5 miles on 20 December (and more that are not recorded!). We will walk varying distances according to our ability and welcome others to join us virtually over the winter, in line with government guidelines. Apart, we are together!
Every January the MND Association promote their #TakeoverMND Campaign to challenge people to raise awareness and funds.
A new challenge is Step Forward a pledge to walk or run 300,000 steps in 30 days. Anne said, 'This seemed to be just the challenge I needed in Lockdown enabling me and my partner to enjoy our daily exercise and a challenge in memory of my husband, Frank, who sadly had MND and died ten years ago in February. I will be walking to raise funds for the Norfolk, Norwich and Waveney Branch.'
Around 70 people are typically living with this brutal disease in our branch area at any one time. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is no cure.
