Story

Update - December 2021

David died on 8th December - the full story is posted on his blog which you can see by clicking this link.

I'm still raising money for this charity as the idea that others continue to suffer from this dreadful illness to so upsetting.  Please help raise money for the MNDA...

The mission:

- Post something creative
- Donate £5 (or what you can)
- Nominate 5 people to do the same (remembering to tag us @MNDArtChallenge #MNDArtChallenge)

Use the template below to get started:

"I've posted this in aid of the #MNDArtChallenge. I’ve also donated via https://www.justgiving.com/mndartchallenge. I challenge @Friend1 @Friend2 @Friend3 @Friend4 @Friend5 to do the same to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association"

The Story (posted Feb 2021):

Over the past year I have become a full time carer for my friend David. He lives nearby, he’s now 74 and suffers from Motor Neurone Disease (MND, also known as ALS). It’s a terminal illness with a terrible prognosis, with no treatments or cure - in the UK, six people per day are diagnosed with MND.  This is not a rare disease, but the mortality rate is so high it only affects around 5,000 people at any one time.

As has been demonstrated so incredibly this past year by the COVID 19 vaccine research, when resources are pooled together - money and expertise - great strides in science can be achieved. With that in mind, I want to do my part in raising awareness of the disease and encourage you to help do the same, and in so doing, help raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) to fund research, care and awareness.

In December 2020 The David Peace Fund was set up to raise money for the MNDA in tribute to David.  Since then it has raised over £23000 (including direct debits) but to defeat this disease we need more money.  All monies raised by this JustGiving campaign will be directly linked with his fund at www.davidpeace.muchloved.com.

The MND Art Challenge

I want to encourage your creative skills…whether or not you think you have some! I want you to take a moment to post something that you've made, donate what you can to the MNDA, and encourage five others to do the same.  For this challenge I painted David's portrait which you can see in the photo at the top.  You don't have to make something specially for this, just share something you're proud of making.

The MND Art Challenge offers us a chance to celebrate each other’s lives by sharing something creative, for example a painting, drawing, a song, photograph or craft.

I want to challenge EVERYONE, young and old, to draw, paint, photograph, sing, knit, bake, scribble or sketch and populate social media with your creations. There are no rules - anything creative is welcome - think outside the box.  If you can sculpt, arrange flowers, blow glass, or create pottery, show us what you’ve made!

How does it work?  Share a photo of what you've made to your social media account tagging us @MNDArtChallenge and using the hashtag #MNDArtChallenge and don't forget to challenge five others to do the same.

Create, Donate, Nominate!

There’s still no real treatment and still no cure. All proceeds raised will go towards the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) to fund research, care and awareness. Please help us.
