Story
The Northants Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) has launched an Emergency Appeal for donations to maintain its vital support for people living with MND, a terminal illness.
Local people turn to the Northants Branch for advice, face-to-face meetings and, importantly, applications for financial grants to help improve their quality of life.
With the coronavirus pandemic causing cancellation or postponement of fundraising events, volunteers at the Northants Branch are determined to find other ways to raise money to continue supporting local people facing this devastating illness.
Kate Inchley joined the Northants Branch in 1993 after learning family members had suffered with MND over the years and saw what a devastating and debilitating illness MND really is . Kate wanted to support and do all that is possible for the Association . Having held the position of Treasurer in the early years Kate is now Chair and Branch Contact for the county of Northamptonshire. Kate says
"Supporting people affected by the disease is more important than ever at this very difficult time. The Branch provides vital support to people seeking help on all levels, emotionally and financially".
Around 50 people are living with this brutal disease in Northamptonshire. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis, and half within two years. There is no cure.
