Story
I am undertaking the “100 Press-ups a Day in May” in order to raise money and awareness for MND Association.
MND stands for Motor Neuron Disease and affects the motor
neurons, which are nerve cells located in the brain and spinal cord that
transmit signals to the muscles, enabling voluntary movements such as walking, speaking, swallowing, and breathing. In MND, these motor neurons gradually degenerate and die, leading to a loss of muscle control and function. The symptoms of MND can vary among individuals but commonly include muscle weakness, muscle wasting, difficulty in speaking and swallowing, cramps, twitching, and eventually paralysis. As the disease progresses, it can affect various aspects of daily life, including mobility, communication, and respiratory function.
There is currently no cure for MND, and treatment primarily
focuses on managing symptoms, providing support, and improving the quality of life for individuals with the disease. This may involve a multidisciplinary approach, including medications, assistive devices, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and respiratory support. MND is a debilitating condition that significantly impacts the lives of both individuals diagnosed with the disease and their caregivers. Ongoing research and efforts are aimed at understanding the underlying mechanisms of MND, developing new treatments, and ultimately finding a cure for this devastating disorder.
Thank you in advance for anything you are able to donate, your support makes such a difference to people and their families that are affected by MND.
