Working to provide immediate financial assistance to individuals working with the Recovery Industry, who are impacted by a work-related accident.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are fundraising for RISC - The Charity was created to offer immediate assistance, to individuals, working within the Recovery Industry.

There are 6 of us pounding the streets, running Edinburgh Marathon....a combined effort of 157.2miles on the day...but actually many, many months of blood sweat and tears training for that day.

When Institute of Vehicle Recovery Council member Mark Hartell raised a glass to celebrate the New Year one thing that wasn’t on his list of resolutions was to run a marathon.

But as we enter the third month of 2013 he and his wife Katie, who are founders anddirectors of Recovery Safe Training Services, have been accepted to run the Edinburgh Marathon on the 26 May 2013.

With fellow team mates, some of whom ran the Dublin Marathon in 2011, they will be having a trial run at the end of March when they all take part in the Forest of Dean Half Marathon.

So why did the group who apart from Mark and Katie have no connection with the recovery industry decide to support the Recovery Industry Support Charity (RISC)?

Mark, of Recovery Safe, explained; ‘We had to decide which charity to support so we each had five minutes to put to the group which we preferred, what it did and who it helped. I must have put across a good case as the team unanimously agreed we should run for RISC.

We also had to decide on a team name and with one of the runner’s husband being called Mo we obviously had to be called the ‘Mo’s Farah’.

Mark launched the fundraising campaign at the IVR AGM & Gala Dinner weekend.

RISC was conceived at the European Tow Show in 2005 when Nikki King, of Isuzu Truck (UK), suggested a new fund be set up, not to be in competition with other benevolent funds and charities but to complement them. The difference would be it would be there to assist as soon as possible after an incident, which is usually the most traumatic and distressing time for all involved.

Within four months Nikki and the Trustees registered the charity we know as RISC with the Charity Commission.

RISC differs from other support networks as it was created to offer immediate assistance, to ndividuals, working within the recovery industry, with the emphasis on ‘immediate’. Once the person’s circumstances are stabilised, then the insurance companies, benevolent funds, etc. can take over.

Donations and fundraising is the lifeline of most charities and RISC is no different so suppor of the kind that ‘Mo’s Farah’ are providing in vital. They are doing their bit but they, and RISC, needs you to do yours.

Recovery is a dangerous industry and over the years many operators have lost their lives o been seriously injured carrying out their day to day duties
