Story
"Literacy is the most basic currency of the knowledge economy." Barack Obama
The ability to read and write is at the heart of how the
world works, how we pass on information and communicate…but it is also a way of getting lost in worlds that maybe don't exist anywhere other than in a good book. Barack Obama is right, literacy is the first building block which enables us to build our knowledge, to argue our point of view or to communicate our new
discovery.
On April 28th 2019 I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE), they are a small independent charity who provide training and support to primary schools as well as producing high quality resources to support classroom teaching and
learning.
They believe in:
A child’s right to be literate and to enjoy
literature.
The importance of texts that engage children and
support developing literacy.
Practice that is underpinned and supported by
robust classroom-based research.
By donating you will be helping to shape the futures of our young people, helping them to develop into the best versions of themselves. However much you can afford to donate will be greatly appreciated
I can remember standing at London City Runners in January saying I would never run a marathon, it was simply too far...only to accept a spot a day later. This is possibly the biggest challenge I have taken on, and after a few long training runs I definitely have the determination to complete it, I also have the aches and pains which go with it!
